Barb has been part of the Ola Kai family for over two years, and in that time she’s become one of our most consistent, dedicated, and inspiring members. She shows up, she works hard, and she pushes herself every single class. Barb is tough — the kind of tough that doesn’t quit, doesn’t back down from a challenge, and always shows up ready to get better.
But what truly sets Barb apart isn’t just her work ethic. It’s her heart.
She is one of our biggest cheerleaders, both in the gym and on social media. She regularly shares what Ola Kai means to her, and today, we want to share what she means to us. Barb is a pillar of our community — a member who makes everyone around her feel welcome, supported, and seen.
If there’s a new face in class, Barb is always one of the first to walk over, introduce herself, and offer help. She makes people feel at home from day one. In many ways, she’s become an unofficial member of our welcome committee, embodying everything we hope our community represents.
Outside the gym, Barb is just as impressive — she has a thriving career, a wonderful husband, and two adult children she absolutely adores. She brings that same generosity, strength, and positivity into every part of her life.
Barb, thank you for choosing Ola Kai and for being such a big part of our lives. Our community is stronger because you’re in it.
We asked Barb a few questions about her journey, her motivation, and what Ola Kai means to her. Here’s what she shared:
What brought you to Ola Kai?
I joined Ola Kai during the holiday special buy one month get another month free. I became addicted to all things Ola Kai and have never looked back.
What is your favorite thing about Brigantine?
My favorite thing about Brigantine is that most people who come here live here, unlike other shore towns. People generally do not come to Brigantine for the bars or restaurants. It is a hidden gem.
How do you feel the type of training you do at Ola Kai helps you in your personal life?
The training I do at Ola Kai helps reduce stress. I feel so much happier after working out and it carries over into my personal life. I am a much better person because of Ola Kai.
What are some of the biggest benefits you’ve felt since you started at Ola Kai?
The biggest benefits are physical and emotional strength. Ola Kai, the owners, trainers and members have helped me through some very dark days. My mood immediately changes when I walk into the gym and see all of the smiling faces.
What class(es) do you enjoy the most?
I love the tabata, Pilates, piloxing and circuit strength training classes. That’s just about all of them lol.
What’s one thing you’ve achieved since becoming a member?
The one thing I have achieved is new lifelong friends. Physically, being able to do pushups.
What is one fitness goal you have this year?
The one fitness goal I have going into the new year is to be able to do a pull up or chin up.
What are some of your favorite things to do on the island?
Other than to workout at Ola Kai, hanging out with my family and friends at the beach, at home and the bars and restaurants on the island. I also love to ride my bike around the island.
